Volt Power Connects ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 ("POPIA"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have regarding it.

This Policy applies to both Clients (homeowners or businesses requesting solar, wind, or EV installation services) and Installer Partners (registered businesses receiving leads through our platform).

1. Who We Are

Volt Power Connects operates voltpowerconnects.co.za, a platform connecting Clients with independent, third-party solar, wind, and EV installation contractors. For the purposes of POPIA, Volt Power Connects is the "responsible party" for personal information collected through our platform.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 From Clients

• Full name, phone number, and email address
• Property address, suburb, city, and postal code
• Precise property location (latitude/longitude), captured when you select your address
• Average monthly electricity bill and property ownership status
• Service type requested (e.g. new installation, repair, battery add-on)
• Phone number verification data, including a one-time PIN sent via SMS

2.2 From Installer Partners

• Business details: company name, CIPC registration number, SARS tax compliance PIN
• Contact person's name, phone number, and email address
• Business address and precise location (latitude/longitude), used to match you with nearby leads
• Professional licensing and compliance information, including DoEL electrical contractor registration, wireman's license number, CIDB registration and grading, CSD number, and B-BBEE status
• Uploaded compliance documents, including certificates, proof of insurance, and identity documents
• Subscription and billing information, processed via our third-party payment provider
• Usage data related to your account, including leads received, quotes generated, and platform activity

2.3 Automatically Collected Information

• Log data such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited
• Data necessary to provide certain features, such as address lookups and satellite/aerial imagery, which involves sending your property address or coordinates to Google Maps Platform (see Section 5)

3. Why We Collect and How We Use Your Information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

• To match Clients with suitable, verified Installer Partners in their area
• To verify a Client's phone number before a lead is shared with an Installer Partner
• To verify an Installer Partner's business registration, licensing, and compliance before activating their account
• To generate solar potential estimates, roof insights, and satellite/aerial imagery for a given property
• To generate quotes and invoices, including where an Installer Partner uses our AI-assisted quoting feature
• To process subscription payments and manage Installer Partner accounts
• To send service-related communications, including OTP codes, lead assignment notifications, and reminders
• To maintain the security, integrity, and proper functioning of the platform
• To comply with our legal obligations

4. Who We Share Your Information With

We share personal information only where necessary to provide our services:

• Between Clients and Installer Partners: When a lead is assigned, we share the Client's contact details, address, and service request with the matched Installer Partner so they can respond to the request.
• Service providers: We use third-party providers to deliver parts of our service, including:
  • Google Maps Platform (Places, Geocoding, and Solar APIs) - to look up addresses, verify locations, and generate solar potential and imagery data
  • Anthropic
  • BulkSMS (or our SMS provider) - to deliver one-time verification codes
  • PayFast - to process Installer Partner subscription payments
  • Our hosting and database infrastructure providers
• Legal requirements: Where required by law, court order, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.

We do not sell personal information to third parties.

5. Third-Party Services and Data Transfers

Certain features of our platform rely on third-party service providers who process data on our behalf, including providers located outside South Africa (such as Google and Anthropic). Where personal information is transferred outside South Africa, we take reasonable steps to ensure it receives a comparable level of protection, as required by POPIA.

6. AI-Assisted Features

Where an Installer Partner uses our AI-assisted quote generation feature, the text or document they submit is processed by a third-party AI service provider to generate a draft quote. This content should not include unnecessary personal information about the Client beyond what is needed to generate the quote. AI-generated content is a drafting aid only and must be reviewed by the Installer Partner before use.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Policy, including:

• For the duration of an active Client lead or Installer Partner account, and for a reasonable period thereafter for record-keeping, dispute resolution, and legal compliance purposes
• Compliance documents and identity documents submitted by Installer Partners are retained for as long as required to demonstrate ongoing verification and compliance
• Billing records are retained as required by South African tax and financial record-keeping laws

You may request deletion of your personal information at any time, subject to our right to retain information where required by law or for legitimate business purposes (see Section 8).

8. Your Rights Under POPIA

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

• Request access to the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate or outdated personal information
• Request deletion of your personal information, subject to our legal and legitimate business retention needs
• Object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, without affecting processing already carried out
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) if you believe your information has been processed unlawfully

9. Security Measures

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, alteration, or disclosure, including secure storage of uploaded documents, encrypted transmission of data, and access controls on administrative systems. No system can be guaranteed 100% secure, and we encourage you to also take steps to protect your own information (e.g. using a strong password).

10. Cookies and Tracking

Our website may use cookies or similar technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and understand how our site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may affect certain platform features.

11. Children's Information

Our services are intended for use by adults capable of entering into binding agreements. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, as defined under POPIA, without the consent of a competent person.
